Matthew 13:36-43
Gospel Acclamation
The seed is the word of God, Christ is the sower; all who come to him will live forever.
36 Jesus dismissed the crowds and went into the house. His disciples approached him and said, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field.” 37 He said in reply, “He who sows good seed is the Son of Man, 38 thefield is the world, the good seed the children of the Kingdom. The weeds are the children of the evil one, 39 and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels. 40 Just as weeds are collected and burned up with fire, so will it be at the end of the age. 41 The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will collect out of his Kingdom all who cause others to sin and all evildoers. 42 They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth. 43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the Kingdom of their Father. Whoever has ears ought to hear.”
Introduction
This passage presents Jesus’ explanation of the parable of the weeds. He clarifies that the field is the world, the good seeds are the children of the kingdom, and the weeds are the children of the evil one. At the end of the age, the weeds will be gathered and burned, while the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father.

Theological Context
Evil exists alongside good until the appointed time. The enemy actively sows discord, but God remains sovereign. His justice will prevail at the end of time. The righteous will be vindicated and glorified.
Learning Lessons
God’s timing is perfect—judgment belongs to Him, not us. Evil and good coexist in the world, but God will ultimately separate them. We are called to remain faithful and fruitful, even when surrounded by challenges. Our destiny as believers is to shine with Christ’s glory.
Reflection for the Day
Am I living as wheat in God’s field, bearing fruit for His kingdom? Or am I allowing the weeds of sin, distraction, and compromise to choke my spiritual growth? Today, I am reminded to persevere in faith, trusting that God sees my struggles and will bring justice in His time.

Among the fields both wheat and weed,
Together grow, both stem and seed.
But when the harvest day is near,
The righteous shine, the truth is clear.
Though shadows linger, dark and long,
God’s light will prove the righteous strong.
So let me live with faith and grace,
Until I see my Father’s face.
Prayer
Lord Jesus,
You are the sower of good seed. Help me to remain steadfast in Your love, even when surrounded by trials and temptations. Protect me from the snares of the evil one, and grant me the grace to bear fruit that glorifies You. May I shine like the sun in Your kingdom, reflecting Your light to others.
