Jesus invites us to follow Him and become His disciples. It encourages us to leave behind our old ways and follow Him wholeheartedly. To be "fishers of men" means spreading the message of the Gospel and bringing others to faith. Our mission is to share the love and teachings of Jesus with others.
By following Jesus, we are transformed. Just as He transformed fishermen into His apostles, He can transform our lives and use us for His greater purpose. The disciples immediately left their nets and followed Jesus. This teaches us the importance of responding promptly and decisively to God's call in our lives.
Reflecting on this verse can inspire us to embrace our role as disciples, share our faith with others, and trust in the transformative power of following Jesus.
By the Sea of Galilee, He walked,
Two brothers casting nets, He talked.
"Come after me," His voice so clear,
"I'll make you fishers of men, draw near."
With hearts aflame, they left their nets,
A journey of faith, no regrets.
From catching fish to souls of men,
Their lives transformed, they followed then.
Through storms and trials, they held His hand,
Spreading His love across the land.
With every step, His light they shared,
For every soul, they deeply cared.
"Come after me," the call remains,
To follow Him through joys and pains.
As fishers of men, we too must be,
Bringing His love to all we see.
Lord Jesus,
You called Your first disciples with a simple yet profound invitation, "Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men."
Grant us the grace to hear and respond to Your call in our lives. Help us to leave behind our old ways and follow You wholeheartedly, transforming our hearts and minds to be more like You. Guide us in our mission to share Your love and truth with others, making us true fishers of men.
Lord, give us the courage to step out in faith, Trusting in Your guidance and strength. May we always be ready to spread Your Gospel, bringing hope and salvation to those we encounter.
Amen.

THE CALL OF THE FIRST DISCIPLES
Matthew 4:18-22
Gospel Acclamation
Come after me, says the Lord; and I will make you fishers of men.
Gospel | Matthew 4:18-22
18 As Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter, and his brother Andrew, casting a net into the sea; they were fishermen. 19 He said to them, “Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.” 20 At once they left their nets and followed him. 21 He walked along from there and saw two other brothers, James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They were in a boat, with their father Zebedee, mending their nets. He called them, 22 and immediately they left their boat and their father and followed him.
