Serve and Follow Jesus

"Whoever serves me must follow me,
and where I am, there also will my servant be.
The Father will honor whoever serves me.”
(John 12:26)

Jesus emphasized that those who serve Him must follow His example. We share in His sufferings, submitting to God’s purpose for our lives. Through this “death” to self, we become vessels for God’s work, bearing fruit that impacts others. Just as Jesus submitted to God’s plan, we too must surrender our own will and desires. By “dying” to self, we bear spiritual fruit—love, kindness, compassion, and faithfulness—that glorifies God. Just as a grain of wheat transforms into a fruitful harvest, our lives can bear abundant fruit when we yield to God’s will.

24 Jesus said to his disciples: “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat; but if it dies, it produces much fruit. 25 Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will preserve it for eternal life. 26 Whoever serves me must follow me, and where I am, there also will my servant be. The Father will honor whoever serves me.” (John 12:24-26)

Lord Jesus, our Savior and Redeemer, in the quiet chambers of our hearts, we come before You, humbled and willing. You, who bore the cross, who suffered for our sake, teach us the way of surrender. As we reflect on Your life, we recognize that true service to You requires more than mere words—it demands a yielded heart. We yield to Your purpose: In the footsteps of Christ, we walk. We share in His sufferings, knowing that through our trials, we become vessels for Your work. May our lives echo His example, submitting to Your divine plan. Let our purpose align with Yours, O God, as we seek to glorify You. We surrender our will and desires: Break the chains of self-will that bind us. Just as Jesus prayed in Gethsemane, “Not my will, but Yours be done,” we echo those words. Our desires, our ambitions—we lay them down at Your feet. For in dying to self, we find true life. Transform our hearts, Lord, that we may bear fruit that reflects Your character. We long for spiritual fruit: As a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, so let our lives be buried in Your grace. From this surrender, let love blossom—a love that extends beyond ourselves. Let kindness flow from our hands, compassion from our hearts, and faithfulness from our very being. May our lives be a fragrant offering, a harvest of Your goodness. We yield to Your will: Guide us, O Lord, in the paths of righteousness. When storms rage and doubts assail, remind us that Your will is our anchor. Help us prioritize eternal perspectives over temporary concerns. In yielding, we find strength. In surrender, we discover purpose. In You, we live and move and have our being. Lord Jesus, we yield to You—the Sower of our souls. May our lives bear abundant fruit, a testament to Your grace. Amen.

God delights in cheerful, willing hearts. Giving should come from a place of joy and gratitude. Our attitude matters and our actions have consequences. When we give generously—whether financially, emotionally, or spiritually—we can expect blessings in return. God provides both seed (resources) and bread (daily needs). Our giving multiplies our impact and leads to spiritual growth. Let us trust God’s provision. He blesses us abundantly so that we can bless others. Our generosity aligns with His grace.

6 Brothers and sisters: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7 Each must do as already determined, without sadness or compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 Moreover, God is able to make every grace abundant for you, so that in all things, always having all you need, you may have an abundance for every good work. 9 As it is written: He scatters abroad, he gives to the poor; his righteousness endures forever. 10 The one who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed and increase the harvest of your righteousness. (2 Corinthians 9:6-10)

Gracious Father, we come before You with hearts open wide, Cheerful and willing, in Your love we confide. May our giving be a symphony of joy, A melody that echoes eternity’s employ. From the wellspring of gratitude, we pour, Not just our treasures, but our spirits soar. In the currency of kindness, we invest, Knowing that Your grace multiplies our best. Seed and bread, both gifts from Your hand, You provide abundantly, as only You can. Our daily needs met, our souls sustained, In the dance of provision, Your love unrestrained. Teach us to trust, to release our grip, For You are the Giver, and we are equipped. As we bless others, may our hearts align, With the rhythm of grace, divine and fine. May our generosity ripple through time, A legacy of love, a symphony sublime. Bless us, Lord, that we may bless anew, Our hands open wide, reflecting You. In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen.

Fear of the Lord is not dread but profound reverence—a standing in awe of God. Such reverence leads us to wisdom and a life well-lived. We should not merely obey God’s commandments out of obligation; but delight greatly in them. God’s Word fascinates us, just as His works do. Our interest is practical, and we find joy in God’s will and call. Let us always be open-handed and generous, freely giving to the poor, and reflecting God’s heart. In doing so, our righteousness shall endure, and we will not be moved by fear or trouble. Our security lies in our unwavering trust in the Lord.

1 Blessed the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights in his commands. 2 His posterity shall be mighty upon the earth; the upright generation shall be blessed. (R) 5 Well for the man who is gracious and lends, who conducts his affairs with justice; 6 He shall never be moved; the just man shall be in everlasting remembrance. (R) 7 An evil report he shall not fear; his heart is firm, trusting in the Lord. 8 His heart is steadfast; he shall not fear till he looks down upon his foes. (R) 9 Lavishly he gives to the poor; his generosity shall endure forever; his horn shall be exalted in glory. (Psalm 112:1-2, 5-6, 7-8, 9)

Gracious God, in awe we stand, Not in dread, but reverence grand. Your wisdom guides our steps each day, A life well-lived, Your holy way. Commandments not as chains we bear, But treasures found, delights we share. Your Word, a fountain, ever flows, And in its depths, our spirit glows. Practical hearts, we seek Your will, Joyful in the tasks You instill. Open-handed, generous, we give, Reflecting Your compassion, we live. Fear and trouble may surround, Yet unwavering trust we’ve found. Our security rests in You alone, Our refuge, our Rock, on Your throne. Amen.
