Let the Children Come to Jesus

“Let the children come to me,
and do not prevent them;
for the Kingdom of heaven
belongs to such as these.”
(Matthew 19:14)

Jesus emphasized that the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who approach God with childlike faith. As adults, we often complicate matters, but children trust wholeheartedly. We should also embrace others, regardless of age, status, or background. Investing in people—especially the vulnerable—is essential. Everyone matters to God. May we seek His touch in our lives, inviting His grace and favor. Let’s cultivate a simple, unwavering trust in God.

13 Children were brought to Jesus that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples rebuked them, 14 but Jesus said, “Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them; for the Kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” 15 After he placed his hands on them, he went away. (Matthew 19:13-15)

Lord Jesus, our Shepherd and Guide, in the quiet chambers of our hearts, we come before You, childlike and unpretentious, seeking the warmth of Your embrace. You taught us that the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who trust like little children, their eyes wide with wonder, hearts unburdened, their faith unmarred by life’s complexities. So today, we lay down our adult worries, our tangled thoughts, and our weary souls, and we choose simplicity—the faith of a child, for in that simplicity, we find You. Embrace us, O Lord like a parent lifting a child onto their knee, like a gentle breeze that kisses the cheeks of the innocent, like a warm sunbeam that chases away shadows.

Help us to trust wholeheartedly to believe without overthinking, to surrender our doubts and fears, to walk hand in hand with You, our Savior. Teach us to embrace others, the elderly, whose wisdom we honor, the young, whose dreams are yet unfolding, the broken, whose hearts ache for healing. and let us invest in people not just in grand gestures, but in small acts of kindness, not just in the strong, but in the vulnerable, for everyone matters to You, O God. May Your touch be upon us like a healing balm on wounded souls, like a whispered promise in the night, like a sunrise that paints hope across the horizon. And as we seek Your grace and favor, may our trust in You be unwavering, may our hearts remain open, unguarded, may we find the Kingdom within, here and now. In Your precious name, we pray. Amen.

Each person is accountable for their own actions. A righteous man’s righteousness benefits him, while a wicked son bears the consequences of his own actions. God judges us based on our choices, not our ancestors. His justice is both fair and compassionate. Even if someone has lived wickedly, turning to God leads to forgiveness and transformation. We should seek God’s guidance in all situations. His ways are higher than ours, and His wisdom leads to life. Let us walk in obedience, humility, and authenticity, seeking God’s wisdom always.

1 The word of the Lord came to me: Son of man, 2 what is the meaning of this proverb that you recite in the land of Israel: “Fathers have eaten green grapes, thus their children’s teeth are on edge”? 3 As I live, says the Lord God, I swear that there shall no longer be anyone among you who will repeat this proverb in Israel. 4 For all lives are mine; the life of the father is like the life of the son, both are mine; only the one who sins shall die. 5 If a man is virtuous—if he does what is right and just, 6 if he does not eat on the mountains, nor raise his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel; if he does not defile his neighbor’s wife, nor have relations with a woman in her menstrual period; 7 if he oppresses no one, gives back the pledge received for a debt, commits no robbery; if he gives food to the hungry and clothes the naked; 8 if he does not lend at interest nor exact usury; if he holds off from evildoing, judges fairly between a man and his opponent; 9 if he lives by my statutes and is careful to observe my ordinances, that man is virtuous—he shall surely live, says the Lord God. 10 But if he begets a son who is a thief, a murderer, or 13 lends at interest and exacts usury—this son certainly shall not live. Because he practiced all these abominations, he shall surely die; his death shall be his own fault. 30 Therefore I will judge you, house of Israel, each one according to his ways, says the Lord God. Turn and be converted from all your crimes, that they may be no cause of guilt for you. 31 Cast away from you all the crimes you have committed, and make for yourselves a new heart and a new spirit. Why should you die, O house of Israel? 32 For I have no pleasure in the death of anyone who dies, says the Lord God. Return and live! (Ezekiel 18:1-10, 13, 30-32)

Almighty God, Creator of all, We come before You, humbled and seeking, In the tapestry of existence, we weave our threads, Accountable for our choices, our hearts speaking. Grant us discernment, O Divine Architect, For righteousness blooms in the soil of intention, May our deeds be as fragrant blossoms, Benefiting our souls, a sweet ascension. Yet, Lord, we know the shadows linger, The wicked son, burdened by his own weight, Your justice, both fair and compassionate, Weaves its tapestry, revealing fate. Generations past, their echoes fade, As we stand on the precipice of time, You judge us not by lineage or lineage, But by the compass of our hearts’ climb. Even the wayward soul, steeped in darkness, Can find redemption in Your boundless grace, Turning toward the light, seeking transformation, Forgiveness blooms, a radiant embrace. Guide us, O Sovereign One, through life’s tempests, Your wisdom, a lighthouse on stormy seas, Higher than our understanding, yet accessible, May we walk in obedience, authenticity, and ease. In the quiet moments, when doubt whispers, May we seek Your counsel, our North Star, For Your ways are life-giving, eternal, And Your love, a balm that heals every scar. Amen.

Our sins matter; they affect our relationship with God and others. When we sin, we ultimately offend God. Our actions impact our Creator, who desires our repentance. Humbly seek God’s mercy; He is ready to forgive. Repentance involves turning away from sin and toward God. Excuses hinder growth; genuine repentance requires honesty. Genuine repentance brings restoration and joy. We all fall short, but admitting our sins opens the door to restoration. God’s mercy is abundant, undeserved, and life-changing. We find hope in His compassion and willingness to restore us.

12 A clean heart create for me, O God, and a steadfast spirit renew within me. 13 Cast me not out from your presence, and your Holy Spirit take not from me. (R) 14 Give me back the joy of your salvation, and a willing spirit sustain in me. 15 I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners shall return to you. (R) 18 For you are not pleased with sacrifices; should I offer a burnt offering, you would not accept it. 19 My sacrifice, O God, is a contrite spirit; a heart contrite and humbled, O God, you will not spurn. (Psalm 51:12-13, 14-15, 18-19)

Gracious Father, we come before You, our hearts laid bare, Aware of our sins, our offenses against You. Forgive us, Lord, for we have strayed, and in our wandering, we have wounded Your heart. Our actions ripple outward, impacting others, our relationships marred by our transgressions. Yet Your grace abounds, a river deep and wide, inviting us to turn from darkness to Your light. Humbly, we seek Your mercy, O God, knowing that You stand ready to forgive. May our repentance be genuine, honest, no room for hollow excuses that hinder growth. Restore us, Lord, as we turn toward You, joy dancing forth like a sunrise after night. Your compassion knows no bounds, and undeservedly, You transform our brokenness. Hope ignites within us—a beacon on life’s sea, for Your mercy is abundant, life-changing. May we find solace in Your grace, And may our hearts ever seek restoration in You. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
